Curocom Canada
Curocom Co., Ltd., a Korean company, has established three major divisions,
in Information Technology, Biotechnology and Venture Capital investment. The company was established in 1997 and is
listed in the Korea Stock Exchange (KRX) market.
In 2005, Curocom acquired Sumagen Co., Ltd. along with other acquisitions
in banking, information technology and consumer products. Under the leadership of Dr. Dong Joon Kim,
CEO/President, Curocom is a small, well-organized company with its headquarters
in Seoul, Korea.
In October 2006, Curocom opened a new office in the London Biotechnology
and Commercialization Centre (the Stiller Centre), its first Canadian
subsidiary of Sumagen Co., Ltd. The
Canadian subsidiary supports the research of Dr. Chil-Yong Kang, Professor in
the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Schulich School of Medicine and
Dentistry at The University of Western Ontario, who has developed a new
experimental HIV/AIDS vaccine. Establishing
this new subsidiary in the Stiller Centre has significantly accelerated the human
clinical trials and commercialization process of the novel HIV/AIDS vaccine
program.
The HIV/AIDS vaccine may be available for therapeutic use within the next
3-4 years and for use as a preventive vaccine within the next 6-7 years. The vaccine has proven to stimulate adequate
immune responses in non-humans and primates, and holds tremendous promise. The vaccine is based on the combination of
killed whole HIV mutant and recombinant human adenovirus carrying HIV genes
which produce virus-like particles.
Curocom’s commitment to have the vaccine manufactured makes way for U.S.
FDA approval with confidence that the approval will be granted.
Curocom Canada
has also initiated a program to develop a Hepatits C vaccine on Professor
Kang’s novel vesicular stomatitis virus delivery system.
