Six medical pioneers named Canada’s 2010 Hall of Fame inductees

The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame is pleased to announce the 2010 inductees. These
remarkable individuals will join the ranks of the 76 Hall of Fame laureates who have previously
been inducted for pushing the boundaries of knowledge to improve human health.

The six inductees, whose bios are attached, are:
Dr. Alan C. Burton MBE
Dr. William A. Cochrane OC
Dr. Phil Gold CC OQ
Dr. James C. Hogg OC
Dr. Vera Peters OC
Dr. Calvin R. Stiller CM OOnt

“I am most appreciative and honoured to be selected for induction into The Canadian Medical
Hall of Fame,” said incoming laureate Dr. William Cochrane. “The recognition must be shared
with my many associates across Canada, and in Calgary and Alberta, who have joined me in
various health care and medical research activities over the years. I would be remiss if I did not
also recognize the major contribution of my wife and family. To all, I am sincerely grateful.”
The 2010 inductees were selected by an independent committee of prominent leaders from
Canada’s medical community.
“Choosing the recipients from amongst a group of highly-accomplished scientists, care
providers and builders of medicine is always a difficult process,” said Dr. Alain Beaudet,
president of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and chair of the Selection Committee.
“All are worthy of our recognition and gratitude, but this year’s inductees exemplify the highest
degree of distinction through their contributions to Canada’s enduring culture of health care
excellence.”
Over 500 of our country’s leading citizens will gather for the Induction Ceremony to be held for
the first time in Calgary on April 13, 2010. The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame is joined by
major sponsors, CN, Scotiabank, BMO Bank of Montreal and the Canadian Medical
Association, in bringing this unique and prestigious event to Canadians.
The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame is dedicated to creating an enduring tribute to Canada’s
medical pioneers who, through discovery and innovation, have contributed to better health in
Canada and the world. Through our laureate and educational programs, we inspire students to
pursue careers in the health sciences and to dream of becoming our future medical heroes.
