Dr. Peter Rogan was awarded a new single patent on single copy genomic sequences, issued on June 8th, 2010 as U.S. Patent No. 7,734,424. It is entitled Ab Initio Generation of Single Copy Genomic Probes. Dr. Rogan is the sole inventor and the patent has been exclusively licensed to his company, Cytognomix Inc.
The invention describes an ab initio method for finding locations of unique sequence intervals and preparing nucleic acids from any genomic sequence. The invention obviates the requirement for comparison with a database of consensus repetitive sequence family members (ie. Repeat Masking). This method provides more comprehensive and accurate identification of these sequences than their previously patented approach and will be useful in the design of wide spectrum of genomic products.
